Studio Update (May 14, 2016)

I have a little more than six weeks left here in Belfast, and I am working diligently to meet my self-imposed deadline on a few projects. At least on beautiful sunny and warm days like this, I can see the shipyards and surrounding hills off in the distance whilst working away painting minute details. These past few weeks have been dedicated to little bits of detritus which are stuck to the tape residue in the image of the back of the photograph, stains and discoloration on the edge of the photograph and surface scratches and blemishes that obfuscate the image (see below). As always please forgive the poor-quality iPhone photos, the sensor simply cannot pick up all the color and value transitions.

I plan to show this work in a group exhibition at the Crescent Arts Centre in June, and am currently working on the paintings for the show and my contribution to the symposium which will coincide with the opening of the exhibition on Saturday 11 June.
