“When I paint from a photograph, conscious thinking is eliminated. I don’t know what I am doing. My work is far closer to the Informel than to any kind of ‘realism’. The photograph has an abstraction of its own, which is not easy to see through.”
— Gerhard Richter, Notes 1964-65 from the book "Gerhard Richer: Text, Writings, Letters and Interviews 1961-2007"

Studio Update (April 28, 2016)

April 28, 2016

Work in-progress, 28 April 2016

This week is the final week of classes at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University. It is hard to believe I have been in Northern Ireland for 14 weeks now, and a little more than half-way through my time in the UK. There is still a lot to do, inside the studio and out.

I apologize to all my avid followers (ha!) that I have not posted updates in a few weeks. Changes are very slow, and not always apparent in poor quality iPhone snaps. But, as these paintings are starting to come together I will post updates on a more regular basis. Above is one of the paintings I have been working on, and below are a few details.

I will also post information about a forthcoming exhibition and symposium I will be participating in at the Crescent Arts Centre in June in the coming weeks.
